My career has spanned university research, corporate America, local government and over thirty years of experience in non-profits.
I started my career as a Lab Tech at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics at the University of Rochester and grew into contracts administration and financial operations while working on my MBA.
I moved to Bausch & Lomb for six years working and managing financial planning and analysis functions primarily at the corporate level with stints in the sunglass and contact lens divisions.
I was recruited into the position of the Director of the Office of Management of budget of Monroe County, NY – the fifth largest county in New York with a budget of $770M. This was an incredible opportunity and experience but one I never wanted to repeat! I served in this capacity for four years until the County Executive lost an election.
I next held the position of Chief Financial Officer of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester for fifteen years from January 1992 until January 2007. In this position I managed Diocesan finances and set policies and monitored and managed fiscal affairs of ~150 parishes and ~40 schools. I managed the Diocesan self-insurance program, implemented the diocesan pooled investment program, and formulated new pension plans for clergy and lay personnel.
After coming out in 2006 (including to my Bishop), I moved to Washington DC in 2007 to join the staff of the Human Rights Campaign as VP then SVP of Finance and Operations. In this position I was responsible for managing Finance, IT & Data Security, Data Strategy and Analytics, Facility Operations, Physical Security, and Administrative Operations. I was primary staff to the Board’s Finance, Audit and Pension Committees and had shared responsibility for the Risk Management Committee. I held this position for over eighteen years until my retirement on August 1, 2025.
Not one to sit around and watch daytime TV, I joined the staff at Living Out Palm Springs as Director of Accounting in September 2025.
Personal notes:
I have been married nearly ten years to Dan Anderson. We met in Palm Springs in 2013 while he was living in San Francisco and I was living in Washington, DC. After a cross-country relationship, Dan moved to DC in 2015, and we were married in 2016. We moved to the Palm Springs area in May 2021 and reside in Cathedral City. Dan works as recovery room nurse at El Mirador Surgery Center.
I am the proud father of two adult men who bring us great joy. Dan and I travel back to upstate New York each year for a week on one of the Finger Lakes with our sons and their wives.
Fun fact – I was Mr. Capital Pride Leather 2008 and first runner up for Mr. Mid-Atlantic Leather in 2009.
